What is PFMS portal?
PFMS is an online web portal designed to track the flow of funds distributed under various central and state government schemes all over India and provides real-time analytics of all expenditures. It comes under the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India and helps in the implementation of the Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT) scheme to everyone.
Initially, four Flagship schemes MGNREGS, NRHM, SSA, and PMGSYwere launched through PFMS for four states Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, and Mizoram. After the successful rollout of these four schemes, the portal was nationally rolled out in 2013 for all schemes in all states.
Direct Benefit Transfer
PFMS acts as a mediator for the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and connected with the Indian Banking System to provide a transparent and effective payment processing system. All beneficiary’s account is first validated by the PMFS and then funds can be transferred. Currently, around 300 banks are connected with the portal including Public Sector Banks, India Post, Some Private Banks, etc.
“Scholarship for College and University Students” is introduced in 2008 by the Department of Higher education to help the poor students and scholarship was given to the students through the state education board
The central government has announced the Direct benefits transfer scheme in 2013 and since then crores of rupees have been transferred in the Beneficiaries Adhar linked Bank account through the portal.
Different Ministries and Departments, such as PM-KISAN, NSAP, MNREGASoft, MCTS, AwasSoft, and Kanyashree can transfer funds electronically to beneficiaries through the PFMS portal.
Direct Benefit Transfer Highlights:
- Presently the portal is connected with the 90 Banks nationally.
- Beneficiaries and Agencies both can be registered on the PFS portal
- It will track all types of funds and provide tracking information
- Agencies can check a different kind of reports at any time related to the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme
- Validation of the Beneficiaries is done on both sides. First Banks verify the Beneficiary data then PFMS verifies all details.
- After the verification Banks can transfer the funds directly to the Beneficiary Bank account through the portal.
